Indian spice exports rise by 16 percent over April to February period

INDIAN Spice exports between April 2007 and February 2008 rose by 16% to 377,000 tonnes from 325,076 tonnes in the same period of the previous financial year. Exports earnings also jumped 19% Rs37.85bn ($940.47m) against Rs31.77bn in the same period of 2006/07. According to the latest estimates of the Spices Board, export earnings exceeded the target fixed for the year, both in dollar and rupee terms, while in volume, 99% of the 380,000 tonne target has been achieved.
