INDIAN spice exports were 4% up in volume this July at 40,625 tonnes from 38,975 tonnes in July 2008, but overall sales for the season are still lagging behind those of a year ago. The cumulative export total for the April to July 2009 period is 164,215 tonnes, 14% down from 189,870 tonnes over the same four months of 2008. The sales achieved so far in the current season generated Rs16.9bn, 10% down from Rs18.8bn at the same stage of 2008/09.
